I’m a little late with this update.
On Friday I decided to take a snow day. I wasn’t really sure how to go about doing that. I didn’t have a car and didn’t feel like walking through the snow to the bus. Also I did not have a ride from the bus to the church. So I figured that was grounds for a Snow Day. Anyways, this impromptu snow day threw off my usual weekly routine slightly so now I’m catching up. So, I am now commenting on last Thursday (February 25th) now.
This was it. The final talk on sex, love, and dating. I had built up all these problems with dating and sex all month and now a final question was looming over our heads; the inevitable “now what?” I gave them a whole lot of problems and now they would need a solution. So, I gave this night to Alex.
Now it’s a lot harder to provide commentary on something that I didn’t talk about. Thankfully the audio is available so you can just give it a listen if you’re interested.
Ultimately we knew we had to provide an answer to the questions we had been asking all month. That answer, of course, was love. God’s definition of perfect, true, uncorrupted, non-judgemental, never failing, endless love. That’s what we were meant for. That’s what God created us to exist in. A love relationship with him that flows out into our relationships with others. A love that satisfies our needs and fulfills our deepest longings. A love that promises to last and never fail us.
As we come to understand and live in that love, we can then be better prepared for any sort of relationship, romantic or not. But it is always important to be sure that first, and foremost, we are having our love needs met by God and God alone. No boyfriend, girlfriend, sexual partner, or spouse will ever be able to satisfy us the way God’s love will. Until we accept and enter in to that truth, we really should stay away from any relationship that would seek to fill that role.
There’s a whole lot more to what Alex spoke on and I highly suggest that you give it a listen. There’s even a great part where Trevor tripped while getting on to the stage while Alex was in the middle of a really serious point. Gotta love those moments.
Thanks,
