Had a moment of imposter syndrome today.

I waded into a conversation on AI with an opinion that was maybe pushing the boundaries of it a bit. My initial reaction to myself was that I am not qualified to push back here against people who work in this world. Nobody is going to give any weight to my voice in this.

But then I paused and gave myself more credit than that. Yes, these people have put in the work to become experts in their tech industry; but the point-of-view I was offering was touching on an area that I have put in the work on: people and ethics. I may not understand all the tech, but I have spent almost two decades trying to get people to think through the ethics of their choices and behaviours. AI—and tech more broadly—has profound ethical implications that will extend well beyond their own industry. Limiting the conversation only to the people who stand to profit off it is dangerous.
